Two Conjunctions on the way
By: Maik van den Berg
The Moon will be close to Jupiter and Mars in the coming days. When the Moon is close to these planets, we call it a conjunction.

Moon close to Jupiter during Conjunction
On October 21, the 84%-illuminated Moon will be close to Jupiter. With a magnitude of -2.6, the largest planet in our system will be clearly visible. This conjunction will therefore also be clearly visible.
The bodies are 5 degrees apart, which will not be good enough for the planets to be visible in the telescope.
On October 23, the 64%-illuminated Moon will be close to Mars. Two days after the Jupiter conjunction, the Moon will also approach Mars. The planet and the Moon will be only three degrees apart. This will be good enough for the telescope. With a magnitude of 0.2, Mars can be seen as a bright little red dot in our night sky.
